GUWAHATI: Munna Baruah, reportedly a nephew of ULFA (I) commander-in chief, Paresh Baruah, has gone missing from Digboi in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district since Thursday even as efforts were on to locate the youth, police sources confirmed.

Family members of Munna, who was reportedly working in Digboi Refinery (Indian Oil Corporation Limited) as a trainee, had lodged a missing report at Digboi police station on November 15.

Munna is reportedly the son of the ULFA (I) chief’s elder brother, Bimal Baruah, a resident of Chabua.

“The family members of Munna Baruah had filed a missing report on Thursday on the basis of which we have started investigation,” Mahesh Chandra Borah, the officer-in-charge of Digboi police station told The Shillong Times on Saturday.

Of late, a recruitment drive by the militant outfit has been doing the rounds with reports of an increasing number of young men and women joining the group.

Munna’s father, Bimal Baruah, however told the media that there was less likelihood that his educated son would choose to give up his career to join militancy.
