Shillong: The Chief Justice, High Court of Meghalaya, Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir laid the foundation stone of the Shillong Juvenile School at Mawkasiang, Mawdiangdiang, New Shillong on Saturday.
Spread over 25,000 sq ft of land, the construction cost of the Juvenile School is estimated at Rs 5 crores approximately. The school will have classes from Class 1 to Class 10.
Justice Yaqoob, in his speech, said that education is one of the primary rehabilitative services that must be provided to children staying in juvenile homes.
The school will help mainstreaming the children through observation, education and vocational training as incorporated in the Juvenile Justice Act, he said.
He said that with proper support and care, these children can return to the society as bright future of the state and country.
He hoped that the school will cater not only to the educational needs of these kids but also develop them into good human beings.
