TURA: The leader of the criminal gang that abducted a ginger trader from Assam surrendered on Saturday.
Munna D Marak (24) of Rongsak Bazaar surrendered at Rongsak police camp. The surrender comes after two of his accomplices were arrested.
Munna told police that he, along with Anseng T Sangma and Pelington Ch Marak, were the ones who started the conspiracy to abduct the ginger trader.
Munna and Anseng “chose the target” and also the spot where they waylaid the vehicle and abducted the trader, Tapos Dey, early this week.
He confessed that he was present when Dey was abducted but on seeing police and the village search parties, he along with Salsrang and Tengson fled towards Rongakgre village but got separated in the melee.
