SHILLONG: BJP legislator AL Hek wants the party to contest the Selsella bypoll, besides the Lok Sabha polls, next year.
“We should contest the bypolls. If we don’t contest our workers will lose interest in the party and we are a strong national party so we should contest it,” Hek told reporters on Monday.
Hek not in race
Denying speculations about him contesting the Lok Sabha election, the Pynthorumkhrah MLA said he has not even applied for ticket and has no intention to do so.
The leader said whether BJP should contest the Lok Sabha elections from Shillong depends on the central leadership.
However, “if you ask me, I will say that we should contest the Lok Sabha elections from Tura as well”, he added.
To a query, Hek rejected any threat to the MDA government saying “the alliance is strong and it will complete its full tenure”.
