Outstanding farmers’ award at Livestock Mela

SHILLONG: The Office of the District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer, East Khasi Hills organised a one-day Block Level Livestock Mela in Mawsynram on Monday where awards for outstanding farmers were given out.
The programme was inaugurated by MLA HM Shangpliang, who highlighted the importance of the function. The MLA said that the awareness programme was organised under the Livestock Mission which aimed at creating livelihood opportunities for the rural farmers and also provides employment avenues through livestock and poultry rearing.
“The objective of the National Livestock Mission is to enhance productivity, entrepreneurship development and employment generation besides strengthening of infrastructure and capacity building of all stake holders,” Shangpliang said.
