5th Mawten Football Tourney to kick start on Dec 1
MAWKYRWAT: The 5th Mawten Invitation Football Tournament 2018-2019 which was organised by Mawten Sports Club is all set to kickoff on December 1, 2018 at Mawpyllun Mini Stadium, Mawten village with Assam Regiment Football Team taking on Umkaber Sports Club on the opening day. General Secretary of Mawten Sports Club, B. Nongsiej informed that in this Mega Event in which the total cash prize is 4.2 lakh, 16 popular teams from different parts of Meghalaya will lock horn against each other. All matches will be played on knock-out basis. Nongsiej also informed that the Winner will bags the cash prize of Rs.3,00,000/- and the Runner up will collect a prize of Rs.1,20,000/- along with trophies. There will be individual awards like Man of the Match award in all matches, Best Player, Best Goalkeeper and Top Scorers awards.
Lajong juniors win over Langsning FC 4-1
SHILLONG: Shillong Lajong Junior Reds continued their winning streak on monday as they defeated Langsning FC, 4-1 in the U-18 Youth League Shillong – Guwahati Zone at the MFA Turf in Polo Ground. The defending champions have lost just once so far in the tournament and that was against Langsning FC (1-0) in the first leg on 22nd October and today the Lajong boys made sure that they made up for the loss by winning the second leg round.Freestar broke the deadlock and gave Lajong the lead in the 14th minute and Langsning responded with an equaliser in the 23rd minute through Figo Syndai. Parvaj Bhuiya however, restored the lead for Lajong after he beat the Langsing keeper in the 36th minute. With this win, Shillong Lajong has collected 12 points and are at the top of the table of the U-18 Youth League Shillong-Guwahati Zone.
M’laya muaythai team shines at national championship
SHILLONG: Meghalaya Junior & Senior Team of Muaythai shines well at the Muaythai National Championship 2018 organised by United Amateur Muaythai Association of India (UAMAI) at Pathare Stadium, Pune Maharashtra from November 15 – 18, 2018. So far Meghalaya have clinched 5 gold medals, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals.
Tyllilang SC emerges victorious in football tournament
NONGPOH: Tyllilang Sports Club emerges victory in the finals of the football tournament organized by the Nongmawlong Sports Club at Nongmawlong village under Umsning constituency on Monday. The final match which ended in a draw by 1 goal each at full-time between Tyllilang SC and Nangkiewshaphrang SC was later decided by the referee for a tie-breaker to be used in order to determine the winner in which the former beat the latter by 5-4 goals. Local legislator of Umsning constituency, Jason Sawkmie Mawlong attended the prize distribution ceremony of the tourney here as the chief guest in presence of village headman, E Mawlong, Lansius Syiem, G Sohktung, Alfonse Lyngdoh, Lambor Kharshillot and others.
