SHILLONG: Hamarsan Sing Thangkhiew was administered the oath of office of the High Court judge by Chief Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir on Monday.
Prior to his appointment as a judge of the High Court of Meghalaya, Thangkhiew was enrolled as an advocate in the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh in 1990-1991.
He was later designated as senior advocate by the Gauhati High Court in August 2010. He has practiced at the Gauhati High Court, Principal Seat, Guwahati and Shillong Bench, presently the High Court of Meghalaya.
Thangkhiew, who was born on December 24, 1966, has also been a member of several organisations and institutions like the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim, member of the Meghalaya State Bar Council under Section 58 of the Advocates Act and member of the Meghalaya State Law Commission.
He has mainly practised in areas of civil, constitutional, customary (local tribal) and company law.
