SHILLONG: Former Congress leader DD Lapang will be the guiding star of the NPP if he joins the party, Deputy Chief Minister and senior leader Prestone Tynsong said on Tuesday.
Talking to media persons, the NPP leader said the party has not received any official communication from Lapang, who is the chief advisor to the government, about joining the party.
“He will be the guiding factor and he would guide us if he joins us. He is the senior-most leader in the state and will definitely boost the party,” Tynsong said.
Tynsong met Lapang on Monday but there was no discussion on the veteran leader beginning a new innings with the NPP, it was informed.
When asked if Lapang will also be the guiding factor in sorting out the common candidate issue, Tynsong said the matter will be discussed in the coordination committee of the alliance.
In a meeting last week, Lapang’s supporters had unanimously agreed that the leader should join the NPP.
The former chief minister too had explained why he needed a like-minded party to serve the people of the state.
