SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has expressed unhappiness over the slow progress of flight trials by Alliance Air.
The pending petition on Umroi airport issue was taken up for hearing on Tuesday by the Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir and Justice HS Thangkhiew.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) filed an affidavit stating that in the earlier flight trials, some technical issues were observed and hence two more trials were suggested.
Alliance Air had conducted flight trial on November 18 and the second flight trial will be done at the earliest.
As soon as the reports of the two flight trials are done, they will be submitted to the DGCA for consideration and approval.
However, the court said, “We are not satisfied with the affidavit, the matter is being prolonged beyond proportions ignoring that September 30 was the outer limit to operationalise the airport. However, certain submissions were made from time to time and the time limit was extended and the same is not well taken as the matter is being further prolonged.”
The court granted five more days to the AAI to submitting the report.
The court wanted AAI to indicate the date for operationalisation of the airport and flight from Delhi to Umroi airport.
The court also said the state-respondents will complete whatever required from their end preferably within 10 days but will furnish the progress report within five days.
AAI will have to file affidavit on the latest status on or before the next date of hearing on November 28.
