SHILLONG: The state government is yet to hold consultations with stakeholders regarding the issue of conducting municipal polls.
The High Court wanted the state government to take a decision on the matter after a contempt petition was filed in the court.
Earlier on October 29, the Cabinet had decided to hold talks with the stakeholders to iron out differences before holding municipal election.
Sources said on Sunday that the government wanted the Urban Affairs Department to hold talks and submit the feedback.
The government will make a final decision on the matter after getting feedback from the stakeholders.
The issue related to the amendment to the Municipal Act will also figure when a final decision is arrived at by the government.
Recently, when the case was taken up by the High Court, the government had informed the court that consultations will be held with the stakeholders.
Earlier, several attempts to hold civic polls failed as there was opposition from the pressure groups and others.
