SHILLONG: The hearing on the deplorable condition of the Sonapur-Borkhat Road in East Jaintia Hills will be on November 28 before the Division Bench of the Meghalaya High Court.
In a statement issued here, an advocate from Umkiang village in East Jaintia Hills, Kynjaimon Amse highlighted the grievances faced by border residents in the state to High Court Judge SR Sen.
Sen converted it into a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) and has made the Union of India and State of Meghalaya as parties to the PIL.
Amse expressed gratitude to the High Court judge and was optimistic that justice will be delivered to the people in the Indo-Bangla border villages.
Amse has repeatedly pointed out the deplorable condition of the road that connects the border villages Hingaria, Huroi, Lahalein and Lejri.
The advocate along with his friends has requested the state government to build a road at the border villages which have more than 3,000 population but to no avail.
The Rymbai Bataw Borghat Jalalpur (RBBJ) project worth more than Rs 97 crore has failed to get environmental clearance even after the government gave more than Rs 21 lakh to a private agency for getting the required clearance, Amse informed.
“We have been told that the government is unable to get clearance for the RBBJ road and therefore it is contemplating a new proposal for the road. We have had enough of talks with the Government of Meghalaya and we have decided to take judicial recourse,” he added.
