NONGSTOIN: An artificial turf will come up in the West Khasi Hills district headquarters and a stadium will be built at Nongpathar playground, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh has announced.
During a meeting in New Nongstoin on Saturday, the minister said the previous government neglected the district, especially the district headquarters.
The two projects will start next year and the total cost will be Rs 5 crore.
The PDF legislator urged locals to make use of government schemes in agriculture and asked them to raise their grievances if any.
Urban Affairs Minister Hamletson Dohling said he had visited Nongstoin many times in the past and witnessed the lack of development.

“Nongstoin deserves equal benefits,” he said as he announced an increase in the fund sanctioned for construction and implementation of various development schemes.

Zonal committee
The PDF zonal committee in West Khasi Hills was formed under the leadership of Marbiang Nongsiej. The women’s and youth wings were also formed.
Dohling said many people have approached him for party ticket for the council election but “members from the zonal committee will choose the best candidate”.
