SHILLONG: The High level Committee (HLC) which has been entrusted to find out a permanent solution to the trouble over relocating residents of Punjabi Lane (Them Iew Mawlong), met here for the fifth time even since it was constituted and received all the relevant documents from all the departments.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, chairman of the Committee, Prestone Tynsong said that the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) on November 25th had issued a public notice asking all the residents of the colony to submit their documents and the last date for submission of documents is December 10.
“The Committee at first has decided to wait for the expiry of the date after which we will sit again in December and take our next course of action,” Tynsong said
According to Tynsong, members of the committee are of the opinion that they should dispose the responsibility at the earliest even as he added that some of them did not cooperate during the inventorization which was conducted earlier this year
“Our only request to them is go to the Municipal Board with your papers and documents as you still have time and we have given you enough time,” Tynsong said while adding that there are altogether 184 employees who are staying in the locality including 128 from Municipal Board and 56 from other departments.
On the other hand, another member of the committee, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar said that the Committee was also in the process of identifying some alternatives places to shift the Municipal Board.
It was also informed that the Urban Affairs Minister, Hamlet Dohling would also visit some locations on Thursday to inspect the probable sites where Municipal Office could be shifted.
It may be mentioned that the terms of reference of the committee is to examine all relevant records and documents relating to the relocation of the Sweepers’ Colony, Sweepers’ Lane and Mawlong Haat and to recommend practically feasible solutions for the relocation.
