Nongrum to contest Selsella by-poll

TURA: In a major development, former MLA of Rajabala Sayedullah Nongrum will contest the Selsella by-poll as the candidate of the United Democratic Party (UDP).
The former Congress leader and legislator formally rejoined the UDP on Monday in the presence of party president and Meghalaya Speaker Donkupar Roy, MLA Samuel Sangma, Titostarwell Chyne among other party functionaries at Hallidayganj in West Garo Hills.
UDP’s lone member in the GHADC Boston Marak also attended Monday’s meeting.
Nongrum is among the first to join the race with more names expected to come up soon. Nongrum is a two-time MLA from Rajabala having lost the 2018 elections from Tikrikilla constituency. In 2013, he was defeated by independent MLA Ashahel D Shira from Rajabala following delimitation of the seat.Selsella Assembly seat fell vacant after the demise of Congress’s Clement Marak.
