President Kovind to attend IAF programme in Borjhar

GUWAHATI: President Ram Nath Kovind arrived here on a two-day visit to Assam on Wednesday evening.

Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi and chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal received President Kovind at the LGBI Airport from where he proceeded to Raj Bhavan.

Kovind will be attending a special programme organised by the Indian Air Force (IAF) at Borjhar on Thursday. IAF has reportedly planned a colourful event featuring 118 helicopters.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up for the President’s visit while the city traffic police have made elaborate arrangements to regulate vehicle movement along the route to be taken by him.

Movement of all heavy vehicles along the National Highways 27 and 37 were restricted from 12 noon till completion of the day’s programme on Wednesday. On Thursday, movement of all heavy commercial vehicles will be restricted along the NH 27 and 37 from 6 am till the completion of the programme.

Parking too was restricted on DG Road, Jalukbari to Bharalumukh, MG Road, from Bharalumukh to Raj Bhawan; National Highway 37, from Khanapara to Jalukbari and along the National Highway Service Road from the Airport to Khanapara.
