SHILLONG: The Shillong Municipal Board has asked the residents of Harijan Colony to submit their land documents by December 10, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said on Wednesday.
Tynsong told reporters after the fifth meeting of the High Level Committee on relocation of Harijan Colony residents that the civic board notice was issued on November 26.
The next meeting will be held after December 10, informed Tynsong, who is also the chairman of the High Level Committee.
The panel has, however, received relevant documents from other departments.
According to Tynsong, members of the committee are of the opinion that they should dispose of the responsibility at the earliest even as he added that some residents did not cooperate during inventorisation, which was conducted earlier this year.
“Our only request to them is go to the Municipal Board with your papers and documents as you still have time and we have given you enough time,” Tynsong said while adding that there are altogether 184 employees who are staying in Harijan Colony and which include 128 from the Shillong Municipal Board and 56 from other departments.
New office
Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, another member, said the committee “is in the process of identifying some alternate place to shift the office of the municipal board” to accommodate its staff living in Harijan Colony.
Urban Affairs Minister Hamlet Dohling will visit some locations on Thursday.
The terms of reference of the committee is to examine all relevant records and documents relating to the relocation of the Sweepers’ Colony, Sweepers’ Lane and Mawlong Haat and to recommend practically feasible solutions for the relocation.
