Ethiopian athlete Mikiyas wins Hornbill Half-Marathon

KOHIMA: Ethiopian athlete Mikiyas Yemata has won the eight edition of Hornbill Half Marathon held near Civil Secretariat in Kohima today, where he crossed the finish line in 1 hour 12 minutes and 51 seconds. The 26-year old Yemata earlier won the Bangaluru Marathon, Tura Half Marathon among many others. It was his first time competing in the 21.097 km Hornbill Half Marathon. Sharing his experience. He aims to compete in the next Summer Olympics. Altogether 133 runners participated in the competition including three from Ethiopia. I Mosa Chang, who was the winner of the previous edition, came second with a timing of 1 hour 13 minutes and 16 seconds. Hempao M won the third place. The champion received a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place winners received Rs 20,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively including certificates. (UNI)
