SHILLONG: Congress MP Vincent Pala has said there will be anti-incumbency factor against him, which is a disadvantage, as the Congress is not in power.
Pala told reporters on Tuesday that it is tough for any candidate who belongs to the opposition parties.
Asked to comment on the MDA’s move to put up a common candidate, he said, “It is nothing new since regional parties in the past have put up common candidate against the Congress. But such attempt has not fructified as the Congress has always managed to win the Shillong seat,” he said.
Commenting on the speculation that he would switch over to other political parties ahead of the election, he pointed out that such a move would be unwise as he would stick by a national party like the Congress.
“MPs from regional parties do not have an opportunity to speak in Parliament. It is a futile exercise for regional parties to send an MP to Parliament,” Pala said.
