Catholic Church in Umpling completes 125 years of service

SHILLONG: To observe its 125th year, St Rose Catholic Church, Umpling organised a panel discussion on the theme ‘Contribution of the Catholic Church Over the Years’ on Thursday.
This is the first ever open public deliberation to highlight the contributions of the Catholic church and its varied institutions in the overall development of the state.
The panelists included Prof. A. K Nongkynrih, Head of Department of Sociology, NEHU, Ronnie Lyngdoh, former minister, Dr Veronica Pala, Dept of Economics NEHU, Linus Marbaniang, former editor of Mawphor, Fr Pius Shadap, Director Ka Rympei ki Paidbah and Sr Euginia FMA Social Communication Coordinator, Shillong Province.
Highlighting the rapid changes that the society has witnessed since the arrival of Christianity, Prof Nongkynrih said, “The changes in social philosophy and thought process have helped the society to progress and prosper but there are still many challenges ahead to cope up with in the fast evolving social dynamics.”
St Rose Church, Umpling will be observing its Quasquicentennial year by taking out a procession on Sunday and invites all to this unique observance.
