JOWAI: The Jaintia Hills PWD Muster Roll Workers’ and Labour Union will go on an indefinite hunger strike starting from Monday. The decision to go ahead with the indefinite strike was taken in a meeting held here on Wednesday. Muster rolls working in various departments in East and West Jaintia Hills have not been paid their dues for several months.
The state Labour department in West Jaintia Hills has failed to help the members of the Muster Roll Workers Union in terms of various schemes particularly to those members who have been registered under the MB&OCW Board.
“All benefits were not provided to the workers”, Lamsakhiat Pariat of the union said, adding that the educational scholarship for their children was denied by the State Bank of India stating that the Labour department issued an invalid cheque for it. They urged the Labour Minister to look into the matter immediately else they will be forced to go to Meghalaya High Court for justice.
The union had also demanded regular payment. It also supported the decision of the state government to hike the daily wage to Rs 300 per month which was supposed to be implemented from April 2018.
