SHILLONG: The constituency committee of the United Democratic Party (UDP) will meet later this week to finalise its candidates from Jaiaw constituency for the upcoming MDC elections and former MLA, Paul Lyngdoh, who unsuccessfully contested the last Assembly elections from West Shillong is one of the probables.
Lyngdoh, while talking to The Shillong Times, said that the constituency committee will meet either on Friday or Saturday to take a final call about the candidates.
While not ruling himself out as one of the probable candidates for the MDC elections, he said that the party was exploring all options before taking a final call.
It may be mentioned that Lyngdoh was one of the probable contenders of the UDP for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, but the party decided to field Jemino Mawthoh, who had lost the last Assembly elections from Nongthymmai constituency.
“I lost out in the race of Lok Sabha because some senior leaders do not want the emergence of next generation leaders in the party and want to remain in a position of influence,” Lyngdoh said.
He, however, added that the party goes by consensus and had chosen Mawthoh after consultation with the senior leaders.
“So Let us see what happens,” Lyngdoh added.
