Taxi association celebrates Christmas with orphans in SWKH

MAWKYRWAT: The Hynniewtrep Tourist Taxi Association (HTTA), Shillong, on Tuesday visited Hope Orphanage here and celebrated Christmas with the orphans. The HTTA also donated rice and money.
Speaking on the occasion, HTTA advisor Prof Desmond Kharmawlong expressed his happiness to share the joy of the festival with the orphans and congratulated Hope Orphanage for the good service to the needy.
“We live in a society with lots of problems and difficulties in every direction. This is the time that we need to contribute something for the betterment of our society and our jaitbynriew,” Kharmawlong said.
While lauding the initiative by the association, Kharmawlong said, “When they (HTTA members) approached and offered me to be their advisor, I accepted it after I saw the objectives of the association which also included commitment to social responsibility.”
Kharmawlong inspired the students to work hard so that one day they can achieve their goals. He also hailed the Hope Orphanage Trust for introducing training like tailoring and music for the children.
Meanwhile, Bording Lyngdoh, general secretary of the Trust, shared the problems faced by the trust in running the orphanage, especially in the first five years because there was no support from the government.
He also informed that they have not been able to build the home for orphan boys.
