Govt shelter home for urban poor in 6 civic boards

SHILLONG: The state government will provide shelter to the urban homeless under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission, DAY-NULM, of the Centre in six municipal boards.
In the affidavit filed by the joint secretary of the Urban Affairs Department, the state said it is implementing the component of shelter for urban homeless in Shillong, Tura, Jowai, Williamnagar, Baghmara and Resubelpara.
It was further stated that under the order of the Director of Urban Affairs, the Municipal Board is regularly conducting the survey and ascertaining as to how many persons are sleeping on the pavements and some have been shifted to shelter home of the municipal board. It was further stated that the board has started to provide food and water to the persons staying in shelter homes.
The next hearing will be after winter vacation.
