It may be mentioned that the KHADC had earlier expressed apprehension that the Panchayati Raj system will make subtle inroads into the tribal state, the jurisdiction of which falls under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. Nongthymmai MDC Latiplang Kharkongor has also expressed concern over the impending threat to traditional institutions with the introduction of Gram Sabha schemes.
Recently, a delegation of Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong Nongthymmai Pyllun met C&RD Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar pertaining to ‘My village, my plan’, a scheme which is sanctioned under the Ministry.
The Synjuk members maintained that the implementation of the scheme is not very clear and traditional heads will not accept developmental schemes that can harm the future well-being of the indigenous community.
