SPARK brings smile despite fund hurdle

SHILLONG: Festivals are complete when they are all-inclusive and a city-based organisation values the true meaning of such occasions. So on Wednesday, it took along the old and the young with it in celebrating Christmas in advance.
SPARK, which works with poor children both in the city and on its outskirts, celebrated the festive mood at Mercy Old Age Home in the city with a group of slum children, child labourers, rag pickers, domestic helpers, cow boys, physically challenged and street children and other distressed children from East Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi.
Altogether there were 240 participants in the programme that was attended by T Dkhar, Commissioner and Secretary of the Social Welfare Department, Kaustav Paul, high court advocate, Meena Kharkongor, chairperson of SCPCR, Kailash Verma, proprietor of Delhi Mistan and students from Women’s College and IIPS College, among others, a statement released by the organisation said.
