SHILLONG: As agitation against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) is gaining momentum in Meghalaya, members of three organizations shouting anti-Modi slogans burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and NDA at Khyndai Lad (Police Bazar) on Friday.

A brief argument erupted when a police official, Prianchu Pandey took out the black flag put up by the agitating members of FKJGP on the railings surrounding the fountain the protest venue. Stating that it was public property, he argued the protestors were not supposed to erect the black flags on the railings.

The irked protestors were unwilling to budge and re-erected the flags. However, they were later allowed to erect the flags when they informed the magistrate that black flags would be there only for the period of demonstration.

President of FKJGP, Wellbirth Rani said the agitation had only begun against the Bill, which would not be allowed reduce indigenous communities in the state to minority.
