TURA: Meghalaya BJP’s minority president and sitting member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), Sofiur Rahman, on Friday resigned over the controversy plaguing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 passed by the party in the Lok Sabha, recently.
Rahman submitted his resignation from the post of Minority Morcha president and also from the primary membership of the party in a letter to state party chief Shibun Lyngdoh.
“I am resigning from the party due to personal problem and also because I am against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 as it is totally against our indigenous people of Meghalaya and the whole of North East India,” stated Rahman, who represents Balachanda constituency in the GHADC.
Speaking to The Shillong Times over phone on Friday night, Rahman informed that the district youth president of the minority morcha, Atauar Rahman and the entire minority morcha team would be tendering their resignation from the party on Monday.
