GH groups to protest against CAB today

TURA: The All Garo Hills Joint Action Committee (AGHJAC), a conglomeration of all Garo Hills organizations has announced a sit-in demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Tura on Wednesday to oppose the passing of the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).
Representatives of organizations from all districts of Garo Hills came together at Chisobibra near Williamnagar in East Garo Hills on Monday and formed the AGHJAC, an umbrella organization to oppose in unison the already passed bill becoming an act.
During the meeting, it unanimously condemned the high handedness of the police in Manipur and at Tripura, where several protestors were injured in unprovoked firing during the bandh called by the North Eastern Students’ Organization (NESO).
Representatives of different organizations will participate in the demonstration and zone wise coordinators to mobilize the members have also been nominated for each district. The demonstration will begin during office hours from 10 am to 3 pm.
According to the AGHJAC, other forms of agitation against the CAB are also likely to be staged in the days to come after it decides on its future course of action.
