SHILLONG: The much awaited Mawlai Bypass which is expected to help ease traffic congestion in the city is scheduled for completion in March this year.
An official with the State PWD said that the bypass will be completed in March this year since the improved condition of the road has contributed to the progress.
The road, which is more than 7 km, connects the NEHU junction near the proposed ISBT in Mawiong.
Officials maintained that the road project was delayed as a new contractor was appointed and that there would be an escalation in the cost due to the delays. On completion of the Mawlai bypass, vehicles coming from Guwahati and Ri Bhoi would be diverted through the new road which is expected to be a breather for Shillong especially for the residents of Mawlai.
