SHILLONG: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Mukul Sangma on Tuesday said that he would suggest  few proposals and mechanisms to Assam to solve the long vexed boundary dispute between Meghalaya and the neighbouring state.

“ I will propose few mechanisms to  our counterparts and if they can go through the proposals and see if it can be a way forward to come to a solution to resolve the issue in the areas of difference,” Sangma said.

According to Sangma, both Assam and Meghalaya as neigbours must stand collective to ensure  growth and development of its people

Earlier, Sangma said that the contentious issue of interstate boundary row would not be solved without the involvement of all the political parties. “ Meghalaya has done and it is about time that Assam should do it as well. We got all the political parties together on the issue and have passed a resolution. The Assam government should also do so and if not they should atleast try,” said Dr Sangma

It may be mentioned that there are twelve area of difference between Assam and Meghalaya and years of discussions of various levels have been inconclusive with sporadic incidents of violence and skirmishes reported time and again along the inter-state boundary.
