SHILLONG: The state government is now in the process of signing a modified agreement with the Kolkata-based KPC Group since it has decided to relocate the proposed Shillong Medical College and Hospital to Umsawli from Jhalupara
Officials said that necessary modifications will be made in the agreement so that the construction work for the medical college could begin at the earliest.
Sources said though the government has the requisite infrastructure at Umsawli, it would have to be modified to pave the way for construction of the medical college. However, the Health department would require some land for the medical college.
The KPC Group will sign the modified agreement if it is satisfied with the new location. The state government had signed the MoU with the KPC Group in November, 2012 to develop Shillong Medical College and Hospital in PPP mode.
Earlier, the government was keen to construct the medical college at Jhalupara by shifting the Reid Chest Provincial (TB) Hospital there to Umsawli.
