NONGPOH: Former Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and five-time MDC from Nongpoh constituency, Rangkynsai Makdoh was on Thursday declared as National People’s Party (NPP) candidate for the upcoming KHADC polls from Nongpoh constituency.

The decision of CB Syiem, who is also a former CEM of the KHADC to opt out of the polls due to personal issues has paved way for Rangkynsai Makdoh to enter the fray in the run up for the KHADC elections slated to be held on February 27 this year.

The main reason which has led CB Syiem to opt out of the polls is because of a recent incident in which a market, known as CTS Memorial Haat owned by him, caught fire and in that fire incident, more than 98 shops were burnt down to ashes involving loss to the tune of more than Rupees one crore.

Rangkynsai Makdoh was declared as NPP candidate for the upcoming KHADC polls from Nongpoh constituency in a meeting held at Nongpoh on Thursday which was also attended by Dr DD Lapang, chief adviser to the Government of Meghalaya, CB Syiem, party leaders and workers at large.
