SHILLONG: “A lot of wonderful things happen through collaboration” and the graduation programme for orphans that concluded recently was one of them.
The programme, which saw the participation of 40 orphans and children, was organised at Ferrando Transit Shelter Home at Mawlai Mawdatbaki as part of a week-long winter camp in personal development.
The events were a perfect example of collaboration where the organisers were the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) and the conductor of the camp was Avenues, Shillong. The programme enabled children of Ferrando Shelter Home and God’s Dream Home, Shyiap, to be part of the camp.
Speaking at the occasion, A Marbaniang, assistant publicity secretary of the KSU, said the union “is always ready to facilitate programmes and initiatives to uplift the welfare of the tribal people of the state and they feel privileged to help the children of the orphanages”.
He further applauded Avenues for their efforts to introduce programmes which help build a child’s personality.
“A lot of wonderful things happen through collaboration of people and organisations who want to work for the community,” was the message conveyed by Sr. Teresa, coordinator of Ferrando Transit Shelter Home.
She went on to thank the KSU for choosing Ferrando and its children to be part of the programme and expressed her gratitude to the faculty of Avenues.
Lambokstarwell Marngar, president of KSU, said the collaboration is KSU’s mission to impress upon children from a young age to value hard work. “There is a lot of competition and it is important for children to move in the right direction to reach their aspirations,” he added.
Also present at the occasion were representatives of the Seng Samla of the Pynthorumkhrah Catholic Parish.
The lessons and activities were designed to build up and improve confidence and communication skills and strengthen personal values and self-worth of the young participants.
Participants were felicitated with certificates and gifts sponsored by well-wishers.
