SHILLONG: After maintaining silence for almost a year following his drubbing in the Assembly elections last February, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit has finally resigned from the HSPDP.
In a letter dated January 28 to acting president of HSPDP KP Pangniang, Basaiawmoit and 18 party functionaries conveyed their decision to resign from primary membership with immediate effect but did not cite any reason for doing so.
After losing from Nongkrem seat last year, Basaiawmoit distanced himself from party activities. In March last year, Basaiawmoit tendered his resignation from the post of HSPDP president following the party’s poor performance in the state polls. He also skipped HSPDP’s 50-year celebration last December.
Basaiawmoit was also not happy with party MLAs Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar and Samlin Malngiang supporting the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government.
It is not known whether the politician will join any other party as calls made to his two phone numbers remained unanswered.
