GUWAHATI: With the Assam chief minister being shown black flags by various organisations as a protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, an overzealous police force on Tuesday apparently refused entry to a child to a CM’s rally for being dressed in a black jacket.
The incident happened at an official programme of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal at Biswanath, with a video of the incident being flashed across TV channels and going viral on social media. The video showed a woman changing the black warm jacket of her toddler and making him wear a light shirt as the child cried, being exposed to the cold and discomfort.
When asked by a bystander, the woman said she is changing the dress as security personnel at the venue had refused entry of the child if dressed in black. Adults attending the rally also had to go through a check of their dress colour, with police refusing entry to anyone wearing any black jacket or such upper garment.
The drive against black clothes is apparently to avoid the chief minister being shown black flags at his public appearances. The All Assam Students Union and other organisations have been displaying black flags at almost all programmes of the CM, other senior ministers of the BJP and BJP top leaders to register their protest against the citizenship bill.
