SHILLONG: The Congress will take time to decide on the candidate for Tura Lok Sabha seat due to multiple applications while the party will have no difficulty in selecting its candidate for Shillong.
Party sources said on Monday that sitting MP Vincent Pala is preferred for Shillong though former legislator HDR Lyngdoh has also applied for ticket.
Earlier, the name of another Congress leader, John Kharshiing, was doing the rounds as the third applicant for Shillong seat.
However, Kharshiing did not apply for ticket though the last date for submitting applications was January 20. When contacted, Kharshiing said, “Although I have not applied for party ticket, as a party worker, I am ready to accept any responsibility
provided there is a consensus.”
Compared to Shillong, there are as many as five applicants for the Tura seat. They are sitting MLAs Zenith Sangma and Winnerson Sangma, former MLA Deborah Marak, youth Congress chief Richard Marak and Daryl Momin.
Zenith, Deborah and Daryl had unsuccessfully contested the Tura Lok Sabha seat in the past.
According to party sources, the AICC is likely to choose either Zenith or Deborah for Tura seat.
