TURA: Baghmara Police have arrested four persons for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl during the recently-concluded Tyisam Festival at Baghmara in South Garo Hills.
According to a delayed report, the incident took place on December 14, the second day of the festival, and an FIR was filed at Baghmara Police Station soon after.
According to sources, the minor went to the festival with one Jerry R Marak (22). She was taken by Marak and three of his friends, Thomas S Marak, Saljrang N Sangma (22) and Tebath N Marak (19) to the Baghmara-Rongara Road where they took turns raping her before leaving the place.
It was only after the victim narrated her ordeal to her parents that a case was filed and the four were arrested by the police. The four accused have since been remanded to judicial custody.
According to South Garo Hills SP, Abraham T Sangma, all the four accused have been arrested under the POCSO Act.
“They moved for bail on Tuesday, but it was rejected. We will be filing the charge sheet in the case soon as all necessary information, including FSL and medical reports, are available,” the SP added.
