SHILLONG: NPP MDC who is also the CEM of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) HS Shylla has declared he has resigned from the primary membership of NPP during the public meeting held at Students’ Field, Jaiaw on Thursday.

Speaking at Dorbar Bah Ka Bri u Hynniewtrep which was attended by thousands of people from all the nooks and corner of Khasi-Jaintia Hills, Shylla asserted it was an insult to remain in the party while the Bills passed by the KHADC on ILP, Khasi Lineage Bill and the Clan Administration was still gathering dust with the state government.

The KHADC CEM said the people of the state should press for the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) since the Center was likely to go ahead and pass the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

He minced no words when he criticized the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker, Donkupar Roy with no heed paid to the demands of the KHADC to pass the Bill.

“We will give one week time to the state government to pass the ILP Bill passed by the KHADC,” he said following which the crowd roared in agreement.

Approach the UN

UDP working president, Paul Lyngdoh said the indigenous communities of the state should approach the United Nations Organization if the Center did not pay heed to the opposition of the communities.

“If India does not listen to us, there is the UN that will listen to us. We will knock at the doors of UN because it is our right,” he said

“We were never Indian citizens but it was only after we signed the Instrument of Accession (IOA),” he added.

Sanbor’s ultimatum to the Center

BJP MLA Sanbor Shullai has threatened to resign and move away from the BJP if the Center paid no heed to the people’s opposition to the CAB.

Stating that he sent a memorandum to the NDA recently and till date he received no reply, he said, “If I get no reply, me and my supporters are ready to serve an ultimatum of one month to the Center and the state BJP to exempt the  the state and the North East CAB from.”

He added if the ultimatum was not met, he and his supporters were ready to leave BJP. He also appealed to other BJP member AL Hek to resign from the BJP.
