GUWAHATI: The ruling BJP will stage a protest across all districts of Assam on Friday against the recent attack on party leaders by a section of protesters in the Upper Assam town.
In a statement to the media here on Thursday, Assam BJP vice president, Pradip Thakuria condemned the attack on Lakheswar Moran, the party’s Tinsukia district president and BJP Kisan Morcha general secretary, Trailokya Saikia, by a group of protesters, who he said, “had resorted to undemocratic means in the name of a democratic protest.”
“Moran had sustained grievous injuries in the attack. The incident is deplorable and we condemn it,” Thakuria said.
Three protesters who were reportedly involved in the incident however have been arrested by police.
“The duo were on the way to the meeting of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, regarded as the parent organisation of BJP, at Gopal Chandra Rabi Chandra Natya Mandir near Tinikunia Pukhuri in Tinsukia district on January 30, when protesters intercepted and attacked them,” the statement said.
The Tinsukia district BJP on Thursday took out a silent protest march led by Assam BJP president, Ranjeet Kumar Dass, who had rushed to Tinsukia to take stock of the situation. The party has appealed to the authorities to bring the perpetrators to book and to take precautionary measures against such incidents.
A memorandum in regard to the prevailing situation will also be submitted to the chief minister through the deputy commissioner after the protest rally on Friday by the party.
