Committee formed for Phulbari school
SHILLONG: A regular school managing committee was constituted during a meeting held on the premises of JN Higher Secondary School in Phulbari on Thursday. Local MLA and preasident of Ad Hoc School Managing Committee SG Esmatur Mominin presided over the meeting, which was conducted according to the guidelines of the School Management Committee (SMC). The objective of the meeting was to form a fair management body. Mominin explained all the rules and regulations of the SMC and assured the application of the Assam Education Code during the formation of the new committee. Former Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Abu Taher Mondal was also present. Principal Majibor Rahman Sheikh, teachers and other government officials attended the meeting.
House gutted in Ri Bhoi
NONGPOH: A house belonging to Daiophika Khongjoh of Kynjoiumran village in Ri Bhoi District was completely reduced to ashes after a fire broke out at the residence on January 29 around 10 pm. The exact cause of the fire has not been determined but it is suspected to be the result of an electric short circuit. Khongjoh is a single mother and runs a small business in the village. Earlier, residents rushed to the spot after learning about the fire but failed to douse the flames. By the time fire services arrived, the property was completely destroyed.
Tasek Fest in Songsak
WILLIAMNAGAR: A one-day event titled the ‘Tasek Festival’ will be held at the scenic Tasek Lake in Songsak on February 4. The festival is being organised by the Tasek Tourism Development Committee of Songsak, East Garo Hills in collaboration with the Songsak C&RD Block, Integrated Basin Development Program (IBDLP) and Tourism Department. The highlights of the festival are bicycle races, forest run, inter-VEC volleyball, a fishing competition, inter-locality tug-of-war for women and a pineapple eating competition.
