SHILLONG: Congress president Rahul Gandhi will address women party workers from all the northeastern states in Meghalaya shortly.
The meeting assumes significance in the context of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
State Congress leader Deborah Mark, who has been appointed as All India Mahila Congress secretary in-charge Assam, met Rahul on Friday.
She said the Congress president agreed to address the convention of the Congress women of the northeastern states.
“The convention will be held in Meghalaya and the date and venue will be decided after the district council polls,” Marak said on Sunday.
She said during her meeting with the AICC president, the issues related to strengthening the party at the grassroots level in the northeastern states was discussed.
According to Marak, since she was entrusted to look after Assam for the Lok Sabha polls, a lot of work needs to be done in the neighbouring state. “We have to work out a strategy in Assam to ensure the victory of our candidates,” she said.
