NONGPOH: The civil hospital in Nongpoh, the headquarters of Ri Bhoi, has no ambulance because the state is facing financial constraint.
In a recent meeting with district medical and health officer (DMHO) M Mawrie, members of the Khasi Students’ Union said people often find themselves in a spot in time of emergency.
President of the KSU Nongpoh circle Banpynshngain Lyngdoh said it is the prerogative of health officials to provide ambulance to a civil hospital, which provides healthcare to a large number of patients.
According to the DMHO, a proposal was sent to the state government for allotting ambulance but the same is yet to become a reality as the state was facing financial crisis. “Dr M Mawrie has also admitted that so far there was no government ambulance at the hospital and during emergencies, private ambulance has to be hired” he said.
The KSU demanded that the government should give at least one ambulance for the benefit of the people of the district especially in times of emergency.
The Union will meet the Health Minister to apprise requirements which needed to be looked after immediately at the hospital. Further, the Union leader also said that they will soon meet the Minister of Health and Family Welfare to apprise aaequirements which needed to be looked after immediately at the Civil Hospital, Nongpoh.
