Youth parliament to help policy makers

Shillong: The State Youth Parliament 2019 was held at the Old Guest House NEHU on Thursday.
Minister of Education Lahkmen Rymbui attended the event as the Chief Guest. In his address to the gathering, Rymbui said that there are numerous challenges confronting the country and the youth being the future of the country cannot shy away from their responsibilities in nation building.
He added that such forums give the youth a platform to participate and contribute towards nation building and stated that the topics chosen for the day proved to be very relevant to the present scenario of the country.
He also expressed hope that the discussions and deliberations of the day will inspire policy makers.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs, Government of India has been conducting the National Youth Parliament from January 21 and is scheduled to conclude on February 28.
The district youth parliaments were held on January 28 with 15 participants being shortlisted to compete on the four given topics which will result in two participants representing the state in the National Youth Parliament.
The inaugural session was also attended by Charles Pyngrope, MLA and Vice Chancellor, NEHU, Henry Lamin.
