SHILLONG: Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar along with additional and deputy commissioners arrived here on Friday for questioning by CBI on Saturday in connection with the multi-crore Sarada scam in West Bengal.
A group of CBI officers from Kolkata has also reached Shillong.
However, all proceedings have been firewalled from the media and there was conflicting information about the place of interrogation. Some said the trio will be questioned at 10 am at the CBI office at Oakland while others maintained it will at Assam Rifles in Laitkor or NEHU. (Contd on P-7)
Bengal top cops…
(Contd from P-1) The CBI wants to question Kumar, a 1989 batch IPS officer, as he was heading the SIT formed by the West Bengal government to probe Saradha and similar ponzi scheme cases. This led to a face-off between the West Bengal government and the Centre and later, the Supreme Court ordered the CBI to go ahead with the questioning in Shillong.
Meanwhile, Home Minister James Sangma said the state police are making arrangement for the Kolkata Police Commissioner as per his security category.
He also said the state government has no role in the questioning of the West Bengal top cop and it is only facilitating the place as per the direction of the Supreme Court.
