SHILLONG: The departmental inquiry into the question paper leak will be completed in 12 days, said principal secretary of the Education Department Donald P Wahlang on Friday.
Speaking to reporters, Wahlang said the department, which is facing criticisms over leaked question papers for the Meghalaya Teachers Eligibility Test (MTET) in Garo Hills, has asked the state government to conduct the inquiry and it will be done by Senior Commissioner and Secretary MR Synrem.
Synrem will find out whether the question paper leak in one centre vitiated the whole process of examination, how many papers were leaked and how many sections were affected.
“All these questions will be answered through the enquiry which is conducted by the concerned officer. The enquiry is supposed to be completed in 12 days time. He has already started the process and officers are being summoned,” Wahlang said.
The report will be submitted to the Education Department.
He informed that the department has kept in abeyance the process of correcting the papers and whether results will be declared will depend on the outcome of the probe.
The Education Department has also asked the government, through the Political Department, to have a Special Investigating Team (SIT) to dig deeper into the allegations.
“The SIT will find out how it happened when the magistrate had opened the question papers in front of the candidates in the examination hall and all the papers were sealed at that point of time. The SIT hopefully will bring out the truth,” he added.
The MTET examination was conducted for both lower and upper primary school teachers. Question paper for lower primary section was leaked, he said.
