SHILLONG: The chairman of the State Planning Board and Nongkrem MLA, Lambor Malngiang who is contesting the upcoming MDC elections, has said that issues like the Citizenship Amendment Bills (CAB) are eye openers for leaders of the state to look forward and make moves to safeguard the interest of the people in the future should such a bill befalls again.
Speaking to media persons, Lambor Malngiang said that he wants to strengthen the laws, rules, regulations to further strengthen the District Council which works towards safeguarding the identity of the indigenous lot.
He reiterated that the forced imposition of the CAB by Central government on us an was an eye opener for leaders to move forward and to see that the identity of the people was safeguarded.
Asserting that he will not discuss about implementation of different projects as the District Council is an umbrella to safeguard the rights of the Hynniewtrep people. Malngiang said, “My aim is to serve our people and make sure that our identity should not disappear but in fact recognised even elsewhere in the country.”
Talking about his candidature for the KHADC elections, Malngiang said that he had earlier suggested few names of the candidates but the leaders, elders and the people insisted that he should contest and so he decided to contest the MDC elections despite also being an MLA.
“My people have confidence and faith in me. I am sure that people will vote in my favour and as I have seen they put their faith on me I look forward that they support me,” he said.
Asked if he thinks that being an MLA and an MDC would give an extra leverage to perform better, Malngiang said, “To perform better depends on capacity and progress report. I don’t see it as a burden but I want to strengthen the laws and rules and regulations to strengthen the autonomous council.”
The KHADC and JHADC polls are slated for February 27 and the counting will be held on March 02
