SHILLONG: The MLA of Rambrai-Jyrngam Kimfa Sidney Marbaniang said that the state government should take the inter-state border dispute seriously and not listen to misleading information.
Speaking to reporters after he approached the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC), he said the problems arising out of the inter-state border issue have not been addressed by the state for a very long time.
“The state government should not listen to misleading information as often such misinformation disheartens the residents,” he said. He said that the people at Umwali were attacked by the Assam police without any reason as they only wanted electricity supply.
Asked, he said there was no such incident of pelting of stones from the Meghalaya side asserting it was an excuse.
When asked about a video which was circulated on social media showing Marbaniang arguing with some non-Khasi residents, he said, “I was talking to a police personnel from Assam to release the two people who were arrested but someone who was not an officer interfered and I was annoyed,” he said adding they were the ones who created the problem.
The MLA informed that he will also file a complaint to the Meghalaya Women’s Commission, chief minister, home minister, speaker and chief secretary.
