SHILLONG: Amidst a mega conglomeration of thousands of college students coming from all over the Northeastern states, Prof. D P Agarwal, Former Chairman, UPSC, New Delhi formally inaugurated the 6thedition North East Graduate Congress (NEGC) at the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) on Saturday.
A galaxy of nationally acclaimed personalities ranging from youth icons, intellectuals, academia, cultural and sports icons, politicians, and motivational speakers have addressed the NEGC that aims at grooming the youth of the region with a holistic approach.
Addressing an unprecedented gathering of several thousand college students in the Central Auditorium at USTM, Hardik Patel, the youth leader from Gujarat said that quality education, inexpensive education and youth development are the three important things that the youth of today wants.
The panel discussions on “Youth, Politics and Corruption” caught interest of many.
Ruchi Gupta, AICC Joint Secretary and in charge of NSUI said that youth of the country constitutes 60 percent of the population and if the government is not providing required money in the education sector, the youth of the country will be affected.
Jignesh Mevani, MLA from Gujarat also delivered speech and he said, “The biggest politics in our country is to keep students away from politics. But we must be part of politics or at least political intervention”.
Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, former Chief Minister, Assam, Rohit Chahal, National Media In Charge, BJP (Youth Wing) and AllantryDkhar, Vice President of UDP, Meghalaya also delivered speeches on the occasion.
Earlier, welcoming all the participants of NEGC, MahbubulHoque, Chancellor of USTM said, “Youth of the North East must take strong lead so that peace and harmony of the region can be maintained as people with vested interest are trying to diminish its image.
NEGC is a unique confluence of students’ community of undergraduate level held every year since 2012 under the aegis of USTM.
The event aims at preparing and enhancing all round development of the future graduates through guiding them and placing them in a position where they can decide what is next after graduation. The objective is to make them responsible youth and accountable citizens of this country.
More than 10,000 students witnessed the gala beginning of 5th NEGC with the cultural manifestations of eight sister states of the region. Each state of North East was represented by the students of 40 communities belonging to the entire region, each state displaying indigenous cultural presentation with indigenous costumes.
