Candlelight procession held for martyred CrPF jawans

 TURA: A candlelight procession was held at Kasumari in Assam’s Goalpara District on Saturday in support of the families of the CrPF jawans who were killed in the terror attack in Pulwama, Kashmir. The procession was jointly organised by the United Garo Autonomous Council Movement Committee (UGACMC), UGACMC Women Cell, All Assam Garo Gaonbura Association (AAGGA), and senior citizens and youths of Goalpara and Kamrup. During the programme, one minute silence was observed and a prayer was recited for the slain jawans. The effigies of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, mastermind of the terror attack Massood Azhar and Chief of Lasker-e-Taiba Hafiz Saeed were also burnt during the protest.

Winter camp ends in Ri Bhoi

Shillong: A two-day winter camp organised by the Leadership Training Service (LTS), Shillong Region, concluded at the Bethel Prayer Centre in Barapani on Sunday. The camp was organised by the Leadership Training Service (LTS), Shillong Region A total of 73 participants comprising of students from St. Mary’s, St. Edmund’s, Don Bosco, St. Francis, Smit and Sacred Heart Girls’ attended the programme. Sr. Maya Poshna, Superior and Principal of Ferrando Speech and Hearing Centre (FSHC) was present as the chief guest along with Sr. Rose Cyriac, Director of Bethel as the guest of honour. Other dignitaries and speakers were Fr. Anthony Kharkongor, Principal of Sacred Heart Boys’ School, Fr. George Palamattathi, Director of Siloam, Sr. Vijo Arul Selvi, Principal of St. Francis School, Smit and Albert Nongrum, Asst. Professor, St. Anthony’s College.  Besides input sessions and other various activities, participants also interacted with differently abled children. The winter camp concluded with a prize distribution ceremony

Traders’ body formed in NGH

TURA: Traders from Bajendoba in North Garo Hills have formed the Bajengdoba Traders’ Association during a meeting held recently. The new association will have its headquarters in Bajengdoba. The association elected Arbingstone Marak as president, Vikash Momin as vice president, Raksang Marak as secretary, Senoram Marak as joint secretary, Arjunsing Marak as accountant and Marblin Sangma as treasurer including 11 other executive members. The association was formed with an aim to look after the welfare of the Arecanut traders and to protect local traders from harassment at the inter-state border market in Assam including extortion during transit at NH-51 and other routes and to prevent non-tribal traders from entering Garo Hills without valid trading licenses.
