NEEPCO spends lakhs on hiring vehicles

SHILLONG: NEEPCO spends lakhs of rupees on hiring vehicles for transportation of its officials even as it has official vehicles.
A recent case in point is that of SB Borgohain, Director (Personnel), NEEPCO, who hired a vehicle from Guwahati in January this year for 12 days. As per records, the vehicle was found to be used in Guwahati for seven days and again in Guwahti-Shillong-Guwhati for five days. The reason for the trip was not mentioned though the official has another vehicle allotted to him by NEEPCO.There were similar instances in the past.
Borgohain was not available for comments.
Earlier, there were allegations and counter allegations by Satish Chandra Verma, former Chief Vigilance Officer of NEEPCO and then Chairman of the corporation and Borgohain over TA bills running into several lakhs of rupees.
